In the realm of global culinary experimentation, restaurants strive to adopt distinctive themes that entice patrons. One particular establishment in Nagoya, Japan, named Shachihoko-ya, has embraced an unconventional approach to capture the public’s interest. Prior to being served their meals, customers willingly subject themselves to face slaps at the hands of kimono-clad waitresses.

For a modest fee of 300 Japanese Yen (Rs 170), these waitresses repeatedly deliver face slaps, with an additional 500 yen (Rs 283) charge if patrons specifically request a particular staff member for the service. This peculiar offering has gained popularity among Japanese locals and foreign tourists alike.

A video showcasing the renowned restaurant, titled “Nagoya Lady’s Slap” priced at 300 yen, was shared by Bangkok Lad on X, attracting thousands of views and generating humorous reactions and comments from online users.

According to a narration in a YouTube video on the ‘Save Your Money In Japan’ channel, patrons not only welcomed the vigorous slaps from the female staff but also exhibited a sense of relaxation and gratitude towards the staff members delivering the blows.

Originally introduced in 2012, this controversial service played a pivotal role in revitalizing the establishment’s business, drawing an increasing number of adventurous patrons. Initially managed by a single female staff member, the demand led to the recruitment of multiple girls willing to administer the face slaps.

Despite its past success, the restaurant has recently discontinued the face-smacking service due to viral videos that brought attention to the unusual practice. In a post on X, the restaurant implored potential visitors not to expect or seek out the face-slapping experience, stating, “Shachihoko-ya currently does not offer slaps. We appreciate the attention it has received today, but we cannot accommodate visits with the intention of receiving slaps. We did not expect old videos to go viral like this, so please understand before coming.”
