Rockstar Officially Releases First GTA 6 Trailer Quickly After Leak
Just a few moments after surfacing on social media, the official revelation of Grand Theft Auto VI’s trailer has come from Rockstar Games.
Below, you can find the trailer, which also discloses that the game is slated for a 2025 release. Currently, it goes by the straightforward title of Grand Theft Auto VI, with no specific release date provided.
In the trailer, we get our first glimpse of the game’s female protagonist, Lucia, a groundbreaking addition to the series. Interestingly, she starts her journey in prison, humorously remarking, “bad luck, I guess.”
Confirmation also comes that the game is set in Vice City, accompanied by a large sign — a detail that may not be shocking to longtime series followers but is undeniably exciting. Amidst numerous quick shots of criminal activities, the trailer offers sneak peeks of TikToks and live-streams, hinting at a significant social media presence in the game.
All of this unfolds to the background melody of Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road,” fitting for the various car-related crimes depicted. True to the Florida setting, the trailer features alligators in unexpected locations.
The trailer concludes by providing more insight into Lucia and a male character, seemingly partners in both love and crime. Lucia emphasizes, “The only way we’re gonna get through this is by sticking together and being a team.”
Rockstar had initially hinted at an “early December” release for the trailer back in November, but the leak prompted an accelerated launch, confirming its arrival on December 5.
The anticipation for GTA 6 has been palpable since the release of GTA 5 in 2013, especially considering IGN’s accolade of the latter as a “masterpiece” in their review. While the first mentions of GTA 6 surfaced in 2020, official confirmation of its development being “well underway” came in 2022.
However, 2022 wasn’t without its challenges, as development footage was leaked in a substantial data breach. A British teenager was eventually arrested in connection with the incident. Rockstar had maintained a low profile until May 2023 when Take-Two Interactive hinted at significant financial gains, pointing towards the launch of a highly lucrative series between April 2024 and March 2025.
